With the incredulous laws passed that make everyone criminals, it is in your best interests to always LIE to an officer. You never know that the one innocent thing you are doing may get you labeled as a felon for life. If a cop sees you with your laptop open simply reply, "playing a game" or "writing a letter" DO NOT show the laptop screen (they don't have the right to see it or even touch it without a court order) and certainly do not tell them anything.
I also suggest getting a 3m privacy filter to make sure they cant stalk you trying to see what you are doing. you simply can not trust them.
